Polish documents from the UK — how to sort them out remotely (power of attorney, apostille, certificates)

Living in England doesn't cut you off from Polish authorities. A certificate from the Civil Registry Office (USC), a power of attorney for someone back home, a document for a case — a lot of this can be sorted out remotely, without flying to Poland. Power of attorney

The most common "remote" tool: you authorise a person (or a law firm) in Poland to act on your behalf. It's essential that it has the correct form (some matters require a notarial form) and a precisely defined scope. It's worth agreeing the form and wording with the recipient of the power of attorney (the office or law firm) before you sign it.

Certificates from the Civil Registry Office (USC) — birth, marriage, death

Copies of certificates can usually be obtained remotely (including via Polish e-services or through an authorised person). Check whether you need an abridged or a full copy — that depends on the purpose.

Apostille / legalisation

A document intended for use abroad (or a foreign document to be used in Poland) often requires an apostille. This is a separate step — it's worth establishing in advance which document needs it and where, so you don't have to do it twice.

Official and court matters
