How Much Alcohol and Cigarettes You Can Bring from the UK to Poland

After Brexit, the United Kingdom is, for customs purposes, a non-EU country - so the traveller's allowances for bringing goods into Poland/the EU apply, not the old "EU" rules. Below are the indicative amounts for a traveller (for personal use). Always confirm the limits and conditions with current customs sources before you travel.

Traveller's allowances (from outside the EU, for personal use)

Tobacco products (one of the following options) — the limit depends on how you travel (podatki.gov.pl):
— overland travel (e.g. by car/ferry and then by road): 40 cigarettes, or 20 cigarillos, or 10 cigars, or 50 g of tobacco;
— travelling directly to Poland by air or sea: 200 cigarettes, or 100 cigarillos, or 50 cigars, or 250 g of tobacco.

Alcohol (can be combined across two groups): - drinks >22%: 1 litre, or drinks ≤22% / sparkling wine: 2 litres; - plus still wine: 4 litres; - plus beer: 16 litres.

These are the limits for an adult, while travelling, for personal use (not for sale).

Important caveats

  • Commercial quantities (for sale) = full customs clearance and duties are due - this is no longer "traveller's luggage".
  • Exceeding the limits = an obligation to declare and pay charges.
  • The rules and thresholds are sometimes updated - check the current information from the customs authorities before you travel.
